How roaming works

MTS offers its customers 2 main roaming options:

1. Easy. Suitable only within limited areas and countries. Connected by default, but requires control over decommissioning and use during travel.
2. International and national. Does not limit a client from Russia to any country in the world, providing communication regardless of location.

To clarify the option of the connected service, go to the user’s personal account on the website or application, or ask for help via the hotline with the short number 0890.

To prevent travel expenses outside your home region from leading to multi-thousand bills, you should think in advance about how best to use your SIM card. Some people prefer to turn it off completely while traveling, using a cellular operator card at their place of stay. This method of saving is not suitable for everyone, and if you need to make frequent calls home, the subscriber's costs will increase even more.

Roaming provides for the preservation of the terms of cooperation with the transfer of the home region to the person’s location. For example, if a person is on a business trip in another city, calls within this region will be beneficial, but communication with home will be carried out as part of long-distance calls. Everyone chooses for themselves how much calls home are in demand or what is the share of communication via local numbers, but upon returning it is necessary to clarify whether roaming has been turned off and whether an extra fee has been charged.

In addition to the usual roaming, MTS provides special conditions for travelers in the form of a number of options. For example, “Zero Without Borders” provides the opportunity to make any calls around the world, with a daily debit of 145 rubles.

Roaming terms and conditions

Some mobile operators include national and international roaming options as part of the default tariff plan. MTS is no exception. When traveling around Russia, when leaving the subject of residence, registration in someone else’s network occurs automatically and free of charge.

This only happens in national roaming. There is no automatic activation for international travel.

Before traveling abroad, familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of the MTS operator in a foreign country. Before the trip you must:

1. Check whether roaming is enabled on the MTS tariff. This can be done in your Personal Account or the My MTS application.
2. Look at the prices for communication services when you are in another country.
3. Add money to your SIM card balance, as this may be problematic abroad.
4. Enable assistive features that help reduce communication costs.
5. Optionally, enable alerts for all expenses to keep track of your account status.

Abroad, funds for calls, conversations or the Internet may be debited with a slight delay. This is due to the delay in information from foreign mobile phone companies.

Each call is rounded up to the nearest full minute, regardless of the actual time of the call. Rounding occurs even if the call ends, for example, after 6 seconds.

For convenience, you can activate automatic network search in your smartphone settings. When you move into the coverage area of ​​another operator, its name will be displayed on the main screen of the device.

General situation with roaming cancellation

Subscribers are interested in whether roaming in Russia has been canceled on MTS, and what are the tariff conditions now. Its cancellation occurred back in 2018, and in 2020 amendments to the Law “On Communications” came into force, making all incoming calls free. Intranet roaming has indeed disappeared; subscribers are moving within the country without changing tariffs.

Today MTS tariffs are divided into two categories:

• With local minute packages - when traveling around Russia, the minutes from the package are used for calls within the region where you are located. For example, a subscriber from Moscow who travels to the Krasnodar Territory with this tariff will call home at long-distance prices. In this case, calls within Krasnodar will be deducted from the package of minutes - they are considered local;
• With all-Russian packages of minutes, you can move freely around Russia, spending minutes from the package in all domestic Russian directions.

The first category included not only package tariffs with local packages, but also tariff plans without a subscription fee. There are two main directions in such tariffs - locally and throughout Russia. If a subscriber from Moscow with such a tariff plan goes to the Krasnodar Territory, then calls back to Moscow will be long-distance for him, and calls within Krasnodar will be local (cheaper).

Often the subscriber believes that the abolition of roaming should have led to equalization of the cost of all calls within Russia - but this is not the case. Intercity remains intercity; on many MTS tariffs it is more expensive than local calls. It should be understood that no one intended to cancel the intercity route - this was not part of the plans of the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Government of the Russian Federation. Therefore, the operators coped with the task:

• All incoming calls within the Russian Federation have become free;
• Local communications in the regions where you are located have become as cheap as at home;
• Owners of tariffs with all-Russian packages of minutes can communicate while traveling under the same conditions as in their home region (nothing changes for them at all).

Roaming has been cancelled, but long-distance service remains – these are the tariff conditions for today.

What's free when traveling around Russia

Traveling around Russia has become much more profitable. We'll tell you why this is so:

• From the beginning of June (1st) 2020, operators were obliged to make incoming messages free – even if they come from abroad. They remain free even in Crimea and Sevastopol;
• The cost of Internet traffic and the procedure for its consumption are now the same. Even if the tariff does not include all-Russian minutes, you can safely call through instant messengers, saving on communication costs - the packages work throughout Russia without additional charges. The Internet will work both on the mainland of the Russian Federation and in Crimea and Sevastopol;
• All-Russian call packages are valid when traveling around the country without additional payments - travel and communicate without unnecessary expenses or thoughts about roaming.

International roaming

International access is one of two options required to be able to call relatives from your own country and residents of other countries. The second option is “International and national roaming”. They act in pairs.

Available for connection by individual entrepreneurs, individuals, citizens of the Russian Federation.

How to activate International roaming

When connected, several options are activated simultaneously: “International and national roaming”, as well as “International access”.

Methods for connecting to the service:

• Through the user's Personal Account at https://login.mts.ru/amserver/UI/Login. Log in using your phone number by entering the password that you will receive via SMS after clicking the “How to get a password” button.
• Go to the "Service Management" column, where you will find the relevant ones. Click on them to make the slider active.
• Call the MTS service number 0890, where you will hear the corresponding item in the voice menu. When outside the country, calls are made free of charge only by calling +74957660166.
• Team from mobile *111*2192#. Once the option is activated, your phone will receive a notification indicating a successful connection.
• By visiting an MTS communication salon in your city. To perform the action, you must have a passport, as well as an application from the owner of the SIM card.
• International access may not be connected only if you contact the MTS salon, contact center 0890; other methods require paired activation of services. But you should know that calling outside the country in which you are located, as well as writing SMS, is only possible if both services are active.

How to disable International roaming

The option does not involve disabling, since there is no charge for it, but it can be deactivated in several ways:

• by calling 0890, contacting a support specialist, or in the 0890 voice menu in the “Services” section (free calls),
• through your personal account https://login.mts.ru/amserver/UI/Login by selecting the “Service Management” tab.

MTS tariffs for Internet in roaming

The operator does not have separate TPs for communication abroad. The company's subscribers use the usual plan in other countries, supplementing it with options that reduce the cost of communication. The choice of the most favorable tariff when staying in Europe is individual. When connecting to the service, you should focus on two main factors:

1. Call prices without discounts. You should visit the official portal of the cellular operator https://mts.ru, open the “Roaming and intercity” tab through the option in “Tariffs and Services”. Next, you need to switch to the “Worldwide Travel” tariff. Immediately after this, two forms will be displayed - with a choice of destination and current TP. The user must provide the required information by clicking on the “How much will the services cost” link.
2. Possibility of connecting additional services. To use the service, you need to do all the steps as in the first option. Below the fields, click on the “Go to service catalog” tab, selecting the option you like for MTS working abroad. After this, a description of the service will appear. The user will have to open the “More details” link.

How to turn off Unlimited Internet abroad on Tele2

To avoid ruining MTS roaming tariffs abroad, you will have to activate one or more of the 8 active services. Here's what they are intended for, and on which TPs you won't be able to work with the options:

• Premium is suitable for talking on the phone and surfing the Internet. It is convenient because you have to pay a subscription fee daily while using the network. Smart “Zabugorische” operates on all current tariffs, compatibility with archived ones can be checked through your personal account;
• "BIT", "SuperBIT" and "MaxiBIT" are needed abroad for the Internet. They work on almost all TPs, excluding options with the words “caring” and “cool” in the name. It will not be possible to add to a number at the same time as the previous one;
• “Zero without borders” - you can talk to residents of the Russian Federation for free. Does not work on corporate plans and some archive plans;
• "SMS on Travel" promises great prices on text messaging. Only individuals can use the service;
• “Turbo button abroad” removes limits on network access speed. Compatible with all TP;
• “Travel expenses” does not provide bonuses or packages - it only notifies the subscriber that the established limit on communication expenses has been reached.

Note! For those who are going to communicate a lot on the phone, it is better to choose the “Zero without Borders” tariff plan. The cost of TP daily is 145 rubles.

Types of roaming from MTS

MTS is the largest cellular operator in Russia. Clients can use a wide range of services and subscribe to favorable tariff plans. In this case, you can use the company’s services abroad. However, it is necessary to distinguish between the types of roaming that operate in the operator’s network. There are 4 types in total:

1. National - dividing the territory of the state into regions, implying different tariffs for calls outside the home network. As a rule, payments for messages, mobile Internet and calls are more expensive. However, you can choose a favorable tariff for communication while roaming around the country.
2. Crimean – valid for calls to subscribers from the Crimean Peninsula and to Sevastopol. The reason for the emergence of this type is the specific geographical location of the region. The cost of services will be higher than in Russia. Crimea is served by local mobile operators, which explains the presence of roaming. At the same time, MTS has a favorable tariff package for profitable communication with interlocutors in this region.
3. International roaming – for subscribers who travel to other countries of the world. Lots of great savings included. There is a reduced cost of services within individual packages, which will also depend on the country being visited. Many tariffs propose dividing countries into four groups, which offer different prices and conditions.
4. Network – communication with subscribers of other mobile operators in the country. This is conditional roaming, which differs only in the increased cost of calls and sending messages. You can save costs by connecting special options.

MTS clients will not be able to use at least one of the options, so you should study the conditions for their use and tariffs.

MTS roaming: how to connect and disconnect

After the FAS issued an order regarding the prices of intranet fording, MTS is canceling this mobile function throughout the country from August 30, 2020. Before this, there were four roaming options:

• international – relevant for mobile communication on tourist trips abroad;
• the Crimean peninsula is served by local telephone networks and to reduce the cost of calls to travelers from other parts of Russia, MTS has released this option;
• national - was created to reduce telephony costs outside the home zone;
• network – helps reduce costs for numbers serviced by other telecom operators.

In connection with the adoption of a legislative act on the abolition of roaming in the Russian Federation, the last two options have lost their relevance.

Within the framework of national roaming, the tariff “Zero without borders” *111*4444# is valid; you can disable it by dialing the same number.

Connecting and deactivating the national service is done by sending messages to the USSD platform *111*2150# and SMS with the text 1118.

How to disable the MTS roaming service

The fastest way to disable roaming is a USSD request, as it works within a minute (sometimes even faster), you just need to enter the correct key combination. Therefore, if you activate roaming before leaving the country, it makes sense to remember the disable command and enter it on the way back so as not to spend extra money when talking within your country. You can find out the list of USSD requests on the official MTS website, or call the MTS operator number.

A call to technical support will allow you not only to find out the correct key combination, but also to immediately ask the operator to disable roaming. The only thing you should know in this situation is that calling technical support when you are outside of Russia is paid. Therefore, you should either call within the country or accept the loss of a certain amount of money. However, you can also call from a landline phone, but this will force you to spend extra time dictating the number and personal information.

If your roaming package does not have an additional subscription fee, and urgent calls are not expected, then you can pay a visit to the nearest MTS office, where they will also help you with turning off roaming. This method is not the most convenient, but if you need, for example, to pay a mobile bill, you can combine both actions. You can also go to the MTS website and log into the Internet assistant with your login (phone number) and password (sent to you via SMS). After which you can remove or add any services. The main thing is to be able to access the Internet.

How to connect “Everywhere at home” MTS?

• One of the easiest ways to dial the combination from your phone is *111*3333# and then select the menu item “1”
• If you like to send SMS, then do it to number 111, and in the text of the message indicate “3333”
• Go to your personal account and enable the option there.
• If you are afraid to activate the service yourself, then this option can be activated at MTS offices. • If you accumulate MTS-Bonus points, use them and activate the service for bonus points, then the connection will be free and there will be no subscription fee for 30 days.

International roaming MTS.

The mobile operator MTS can provide two types of external roaming, with which you can make and receive calls to your phone number abroad (in Ukraine, Belarus, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, etc.). Thanks to the “International and National Roaming and International Access” tariff plan, you can use all mobile communication services abroad, i.e. make and receive calls, send SMS messages and use the mobile Internet. An easier option for such roaming is called “Easy Roaming and International Access”. With it you can only make calls, receive calls and exchange messages. You can activate roaming using several methods:

1. Visit the MTS showroom and apply for connection (a passport and the presence of the number owner are required).
2. Using the Mobile Portal service. To activate the “International and National Access” function, you need to dial *111*2192#. To activate the “International Access” function, you need to dial *111*2193#. To activate the “Easy Roaming” function, you need to dial *111*2157# or send a free SMS to 111 with the text 2157.
3. Use the “Personal Account” self-service service by going to the “Internet Assistant” tab. You can use this method if you are already abroad. After this, you need to register your phone on the network by simply rebooting it.
4. You can activate all services by calling MTS technical support.

Attention!

The ability to remotely connect to international roaming services, except through the “Internet Assistant” or using the contact center, appears only if your number has been registered for at least six months and at that time the average monthly expense for mobile communication services is at least 650 rubles. Or you have been an MTS subscriber for at least 1 year, otherwise you will only be able to connect independently. To activate other roaming services, you need to contact an MTS salon.

How to disable roaming on MTS abroad

If a user of the telecommunications company MTS is abroad, then international roaming must be installed on his phone. This option allows the subscriber of a cellular operator to use all mobile services: voice calls, sending text messages to other numbers, Internet traffic. And also the ability to use most of the popular additional options, which include balance check, trust payment, etc.

In order to fully use all available cellular communications provided by the telecommunications company MTS, the user must add the “Easy roaming and international access” option to his tariff plan. This function allows the client of the MTS cellular operator to use all mobile services even when traveling abroad.

However, the cost of the company’s services abroad for this option is simply enormous; it can be calculated on the official MTS website.

Due to the unreasonable cost, many clients independently disable the “Easy roaming and international access” option. This can be done using the USSD command “*111*2158#”. After completing the application and deactivating the service, the subscriber will receive a text message on the mobile phone indicating the completion of this process.

How to find out if roaming is enabled

Roaming is present in every cellular operator, but for the telecommunications company MTS this feature can be divided into 4 main types:

You will be able to find out from the operator about all types of roaming that are connected to the subscriber’s tariff plan, as well as about the cost of cellular services in different territories. • 0890 - for MTS subscribers;
• 8-800-250-08-90 - for SIM cards of other mobile operators.

Also, understanding which tariff plan is used by the subscriber, the user can independently determine the type of roaming. Per-minute tariffs include all types of roaming. Offers with package traffic include international and Crimean views.

Conditions “Everywhere is like home”

By activating the service, you begin to save on incoming calls. They become free for you without any restrictions.

If you are going to call yourself, then a minute of conversation coming from you will cost you 3 rubles. A lot, but no longer 8.9 rubles per minute.

To activate the service, a fee of 30 rubles is deducted from your phone account. Disconnection is free.

The option has a daily subscription fee and it varies in different regions. The cost of the option can range from 2 to 7 rubles per day. A more accurate cost can be found on the MTS website.
